My story is not one of the classic IT guy. After majoring in applied mathematics in college, I fell into a job as a high school math teacher in early 2004. I left the teaching field after the 2007 school year and worked as a Support Analyst for a defined benefits outsourcing company for 6 months. Then, due to previous consulting work I had done, I landed a job at a manufacturing company that was part analyst and part IT. As the company grew, the role grew into a full Systems Administrator, and at some point along the way, I discovered the beauty of virtualization. In late 2016, I transitioned to Network and Systems Engineer for a PEO that needed its server infrastructure completely rebuilt. In late 2017, a dream found me, and since that time, I have been living the dream as a Systems Engineer at VMware.
I’m a Christian, a husband, a father, and a lover of learning. I’m an avid Spiceworks community member (where the NetworkNerd name was born) and have served as the co-leader of the SpiceCorps of Dallas / Fort Worth for a few years now.
